Exhibit was extended to Saturday, July 24 10am - 4pm
The exhibit will run from July 12 - 24, 2010 and will be displayed in the lobby of San Diego City Hall at 202 C Street in San Diego. A Celebration of San Diego LGBT History, which coincides with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Pride Month, will feature approximately 1100 square feet of historical GLBT community treasures. This will be the first time a GLBT exhibit, sponsored by Lambda Archives and the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast of San Diego, has appeared at City Hall. City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez, whom created the exhibit, stated, “It is long overdue that the LGBT community, like other San Diego communities, showcase our city’s diversity, as well as educate those who visit City Hall. It’s time to celebrate the history and contributions LGBT citizens have made to our city.” The GLBT exhibit opened to the public with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:15 pm, July 13th
Commissioner Ramirez approached City Councilman Todd Gloria for his support of the exhibit, Todd and staff made the arrangements. “I am proud that City Hall will honor the history of the LGBT community by hosting an exhibition of Lambda Archives of San Diego,” said Councilman Todd Gloria. “By highlighting the extensive range of role models who were instrumental in strengthening our community and all of San Diego, the Lambda Archives and the Harvey Milk Diversity Committee facilitates understanding, education and appreciation among all of our neighbors with this exhibit.” A committee of community activists and archives have been hard at work organizing the July exhibit. The Exhibit Committee is being headed by Commissioner Ramirez and Lambda Archives President Frank Nobiletti who stated "I hope all San Diego can enjoy this exhibit. Over the last 40 years so many Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender San Diegans made remarkable contributions to our city while at the same time working for equality. I am glad we can acknowledge their achievements." This exhibit is made possible and sponsored by Lambda Archives of San Diego and the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast of San Diego County with co-sponsors, San Diego GLBT Pride, the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation, Greater San Diego Business Association, Imperial Court, the Human Rights Campaign/San Diego, and the GLBT Center. see Press Release For more information on the July 12-24 exhibit, call 619-502-0747 or 619-692-1967 |
